Either the idea of God is anterior in the line of evolution or posterior to the appearance of true reason in man. If anterior, how could men have idea of a God which they did not understand, since it is only reason which understands.

It may be above reason; then it is necessary to see what are the characteristics of things which are above reason. This to ascertain whether Revelation may be held to be above Reason.
